20th September Wednesday. After a terrible night was glad to get up, most of the passengers seemed to be holding parties, the noise went on till morning, at 3.30am passed a ship all lit up and at 5.30am we docked at Cherbourg, passengers disembarked and passengers embarked. Had my last shower on the Elizabeth, went down for breakfast, got delivery of my photos, wrote some letters to the family in the USA and enclosed pictures, which I will mail in London, got my voorsht from the Steward who had it in the deep freeze and it is like solid ice, met a nice family by the name of Fletcher, he is going to play professional golf at Gleneagles, they have a family of 3 children who are all very well behaved. 12.30pm and now my last meal, I must say a perfect finish to a perfect holiday, and now await disembarkation at Southampton and the Custom boys. The Cunard have slipped up at the last moment by letting the passengers off before all the luggage & we had to wait in Southampton waiting room for more than an hour and now the lads, mine commented on my cases, so I told him I was away for 4 months, told him I had nothing of value, then he asked about my mink coat so I told him how much I could spend on presents etc from my £50 allowance, he commiserated with me and I didn’t even have to open 1 bag. Another scramble to get a porter to take the luggage but shared one with my table companion, Stephen Katz and at long last on the train to London. Arrived in Waterloo, bid Stephen good bye and all the best, got a taxi to Euston left the luggage in the LL office and have booked a sleeper on the 10.15pm home. Sent off cables to Brooklyn and New Jersey, and spoke to Anna on the phone and am now going for the train to take me back to my loved ones in Glasgow.
