31st July. Monday. Millie has gone back to work to-day, so it is just Nellie and I at home, and if Nellie feels a little better we will got for a short walk. Am up to date with my mail, it is a grand and glorious feeling. Visited Solly & Morris at their office. Came home had dinner, then Blanche & Barney came in to say cheerio.
30th July. Sunday. Well my time is getting nearer for my return to Brooklyn, so will gather up my things, which are many, as the girls keep on giving me something else each day, forgot to mention that we were at Joan’s on Thursday night, she has 3 lovely and lively boys, before I left she gave me a beautiful sweet dish made of “American Glass”. Watched Perry Mason and then to bed.
29th July. Saturday. Went to the beauty parlour, look very nice and also feel same. After lunch Millie and I went out for a little while, Nellie went to the doctor and has to be off work for a few days. Solly and all his family came in and we all had a lovely evening, before we could look around it was after 12P.M. and reluctantly they went home.
28th July. Friday. Got up early, had my shower, had breakfast, and caught up with my mail, went out for the week end shopping, will certainly miss all this when I get home. Had lunch then the family came home and had a lovely Shabbos dinner, a quiet evening then then to bed.
27th July. Thursday. Up nice and early and Millie and I off to New York again. Had a bing[e] shopping, by the time we were through were very tired, had lunch and back to Elizabeth, watched Perry Mason and off to bed.
26th July. Wednesday. Off to New York went to La Crepe for lunch and had a crepe suzette filled with eggs and mushrooms, which was delicious. Went to see “South Pacific” it was wonderful, each voice was sweeter than the other, the male lead is “Tozzi” an operatic singer, and besides his wonderful voice, he is very handsome. The show is in the New Lincoln Centre, and after the show, we had a tour of the buildings which a just to wonderful. Had tea out in the square, and back to Elizabeth.
[Giorgio Tozzi, who starred in this Richard Rogers produced revival of South Pacific, actually provided the voice for Rossano Brazzi’s singing in the 1958 film.]
24th July, Sunday, Nellie, Millie, Blanche and I went to Francis’s for lunch, everything was delightful, her apartment is lovely, she has most beautiful things collected from all over Europe during her great travels. She gave me a most beautiful compact, am really getting embarrased with everybody’s kindness. Left at 5-30 , and came home and had dinner with the boys, and am looking forward to a quiet evening.
22nd July Saturday. Met Alice & [Laurie?] in New York, and saw fiddler on the roof, a splendid show indeed. Then we all went to the Piccadily Hotel for dinner, which was excellent, came back to Elizabeth, and finished the evening off at Alices.
[The original Broadway production of Fiddler started in 1964, transferring to The Majestic in 1967. The role of Tevye, which made Topol famous in the film version, was initially played by Zero Mostel in the Broadway production. I don’t know who would have been in the cast on this evening, but most likely Tevye would have been played by Paul Lipson, stage actor. Golden Girl Bea Arthur was also in the original Broadway cast.]
21st July. Friday. Went to the corsettiere and was fitted with a wonderful girdle and bra, which has made a great difference in my figure, came home, had lunch, then went to the beauty parlour, and had the works, went shopping then went home for dinner, later on Blanche & Barney, Sadie & Beryl came in, and had a lovely evening.
