3rd July

3rd July 1967. Monday. After breakfast
Minnie, the Wandering Jewess, went
again to the Expo, this time feeling
like a veteran, and although the
Queen was there earlier than
mois, this didnt overshadow my
visit, took in quite a few
pavilions, and was as thrilled
as ever, sat down for a coffee
and was joined by a Jewish
gentleman from Poland, and a
Jewish lady from New York.
Naturally, we all got talking,
and enjoyed their company
very much, got home a bit
late, and Pitu and Irma were
waiting for me, thought I had
got lost but no fear.

[Queen Elizabeth did indeed visit the Expo on this day in 1967. You can read about it here, or catch this Pathe film of the visit.]

2nd July

2-7-67 Sunday. Here I am on
my own to the Expo, considering
the fact that I had a bus and
2 changes on the metro to make I
felt very proud and happy
when I arrived there without
mishap. It’s true he who
travels alone travels fastest,
becasue I went through
quite a few pavilions and did
them them [sic] thoroughly, one of
which was the Pavillion of
Judaism, this certainly was
something even better than the
Israeli one, arrived home after
8p.m., and fell into a chair, boy
was I tired!

[Judaism Pavilion]

1st July

1-7-67. Saturday.
Pitu took me to Expo, we
were there all day, and only
managed two pavilions, the
Israeli and the British, they
were certainly worth visiting,
both of which I was very
proud of. I thought when I
went to the Brussels Fair
that it was something, but
really nothing in comparison
to this. Went home tired but
happy.

30th June

30-6-67 Friday. Jack and Mary
drove me to New York, where I
got the bus for Montreal, and
Montreal here I come. Mary packed
me enough food to feed an army
Had the company of a nice
young man, whom I discovered
was Jewish. The weather wasn’t at
its best, but enjoyed the journey.
had a stop at Saratoga Springs
for 35 minutes, took me almost all
that time to get a drink. Next
stop Plattsburgh, then the American
Customs, then Montreal. Was met at
the station by Pitu and Irene.

PLACES VISITED

Date June 1967
Place Elizabeth & New York

29-6-67 Thursday. Today went
with Jack & Mary to Brighton Beach,
Some place, saw some sights there,
humans as well. Had the most wonderful
ice cream there.

[This entry is quite vague. Brighton Beach is adjacent to Coney Island, and in the 1970s became known as ‘Little Odessa’ due to immigration of many Jews from Ukraine & the Soviet Union. Not sure what sights Minnie saw!]

28th June

28-6-67. Wednesday. Did a little
Shopping for Mary, and sure know
my way around here. After lunch went
with Mary & Jack to see a house, it
was something out of a Hollywood film,
belonged to a Jewish family who are
moving to Manhattan, were shown around
by the coloured maid in a magnificant
white uniform. This afternoon went
to New York had a grand time,
ate at a Dairy Restaurant then
went to Samuel’s Office and had
a wonderful examination of my
eyes, found I was suffering from a
slight attack of conjuctivitis, nothing
serious. Phoned Ray Dobbie, she
would hardly let me away, however
when she comes back from Chicago
she will phone me, and get
together.

Places Visited

Date June 1967
Place Elizabeth & New York

27-6-67. Tuesday. Blanche drove me
down to the Bus Station, got on the
bus for New York. Got to New York,
got on the subway for Brooklyn, but
took the wrong train, however eventually
did get to [hamp?] and was received
with open arms. Phoned Rita Green &
had a long chat.

26th June

26-6-67 Monday. Spent the day with
Blanche at Irvington. Went to
Elizabeth in the evening and
back to Irvington.

25th June

25-6-67 Sunday. Malky [?] took me to
Irvington to Blanche & Barney, they
took me to see The Sound of Music.
Enjoyed it every bit as much as
I did the first time.

24th June

24-6-67 Saturday. Went shopping
Elizabeth, Maurice thought I
got lost as I was away for
quite a while, and we met when I was
returning back to Parker Road. In
the afternoon went shopping with Nellie
& Millie. 6 O’Clock in the evening
went to a wonderful dinner party
at Alice’s, there were 14 people there
and everything was just too mar-
vellous, the people were very interesting
left at midnight.
