13th July. Thursday. Got up early as
usual, had a bath then breakfast
got some mail, and wrote some
letters, and cards, had lunch
then Jack took us to New York,
did a wonderful tour of the
East Side, one is almost transpor
-ted to the “Der Hame” some of the people
here have not changed mode
of life and clothes since they came
over. Came back home, had a
wonderful dinner, and here I am
out on the porch doing my diary.
To-morrow G-d willing I am once
again on the move, this time to
Elizabeth where I am staying for
a fortnight.

12th July
12th July Wednesday. Went out to
Queens to see the Auntys, needless
to talk about the reception there,
they poor souls cannot keep their
eyes off me. Left for New York, as I
have to meet Rita G, met her
and went for dinner, we
nattered, and nattered, then went
for a walk along 5th Avenue,
then went in for a drink, and as
it already getting late, got the
Subway, and home to Brooklyn
where Mary and Jack were on
the porch waiting for me. After a
rest Mary gave me a facial
which was marvellous, it couldn’t
improve my features, but it certainly
did wonders for my skin, had
a nice cold drink and then bed.
11th July
11th July Tuesday. Back on the road
once more, and am heading for
Brooklyn, must say I certainly
know my around. Got in
around 2,P.M, found mail waiting
for me, and am going to spend
a relaxing evening.
10th July
10th July. Monday. Went this morning
with Blanche and her friend Rose
to “Alexanders” a huge departmental
store, Blanche bought a very nice
frock, and very reasonable. Came
home for lunch, did a spot of
writing and some crocheting. Barn
has now come in so we will have
dinner. A thunder and lightning
storm has arisen, so that has
put paid to any thought of going
out.
9th July
9th July Sunday. To-day was certainly
my day, the girls had a catered
dinner for more than 40 people,
everything was delicious. Firstly
I was presented with a beautiful
corsage of pink carnations, after
the meal the caterer brought in
a most beautiful cake, all iced
in pink, and what a size,
never seen anything like it in
my life, modestly I cut the
first slice, and then the caterer
finished the job. then the girls
presented me with a beautiful pink
fountain pen, and the relatives gave
me packages, frankly I was a bit
embarrassed, however it was marvellous
8th July
8th July. Saturday. Had a quiet day,
went shopping etc, as I am still
tired from the Expo. For a change
had an early night.
7th July
7th July Friday. My stalwart Jack
and Mary were at the station
last night to greet me, and what
a reception, you would have thought
I had been gone for a year. Have
packed my bags once more, and am
en route to Elizabeth. Arrived O.K.
and went with Blanch & Barn to
their temple which I found very
interesting.
[Attending Shul/Temple would have been interesting as, like the majority of British Jews, Minnie attended Orthodox synagogue while most North American congregations are in either Reform or Conservative movements. More here.]
6th July
6th July Thursday. Made a mistake
with the time, and was in the
bath at 5-30 A.M. Had breakfast,
packed and am ready for my
trip back to New York, so cheerio
Montreal, wont forget you for a
long time. So New York here I come.
5th July
5th July Wednesday. Had a very quiet
day, did a little shopping and and
kept up to date with my correspondence.
4th July
4th July 1967. Tuesday
This morning Irma, Irene and I
went to town, believe me one
town is as alike as another, the
shops carry almost the same
kind of goods as at home, but
ever as much dearer, got a
few souveniers from the Expo
but could have bought the same
things at home at half the price.
Have come home for dinner,
and after this we are going to
Alex’s relations (the Freedlanders)
to spend the evening with them.
Went to the “Friedlanders” a charming
couple, and had a very pleasant
time with them.
